VIC & IR Integration
The VIC-3D IR system integrates an infrared (IR) camera with the white light DIC cameras enabling temperature data to be accurately analyzed alongside full-field strain data.
VIC Professional & IR-cameras
The VIC-3D Professional stereo cameras can be extended with IR cameras for full field temperature measurements. The IR camera is included to the calibration procedure via special calibration targets, which are visible from the IR-camera as well as from the VIC-Professional cameras. So the distortions of the IR camera is taken into account and the full field temperature distribution T (x,y,z) can be determined relative to the surface coordinates over time.
Temperature and strain measurement
The temperature range achieved for combined IR and DIC measurement is up to 3000 °C. The combination enables to determine the complete strain tensor including the temperature term with the thermal expansion coefficient of the object material. Under free boundary conditions also the thermal expansion coefficient itself can by determined with high accuracy, also as local function. The example above shows the measurement of the chip. The example of the cloth iron shows the principal strains (left) and the temperature distribution (right).
IR-camera integration
VIC-Snap offers direct compatibility with standard infrared (IR) cameras, including the FLIR A615 and A655 models. The optional VIC post-processing software can import IR camera images recorded with third-party grabbing software. The practical restriction is usually synchronisation between the stereo camera pair and the IR camera, as most IR cameras cannot be externally triggered and do not provide a suitable synchronisation signal related to their image capture process. This means that the IR camera cannot serve as a master trigger device either. Please contact us to check whether your existing IR camera type is supported or can be used. Hardware integration is usually not a restriction.
